PALMA de Mallorca is the capital of Mallorca, the largest Balearic Island smacked right on the Mediterranean. Palma de Mallorca has long been a bastion of tourists, especially British, German and French ones who retreat there every summer and tread on its soothing waters. Northern Europeans get a life in Palma de Mallorca because of the warmth of the temperature there which is pegged at 18 to 22 degrees Celsius. Resorts there are given blue flag accreditation by the European Union, which means they undergo and pass periodic sanitation checks. Thus, management of beach resorts is strict in their no-littering policy. Because of all this, both Palma de Mallorca natives and British tourists have made holiday homes for lease a business in the place. Now, it’s not just the beaches and real estate industry that are buzzing in Palma de Mallorca. There are several businesses of diverse kind up in full swing in the holiday island even as the summer of 2008 is still more than half a year away.

Take for instance this piece of news. There is now one additional route from Bremen to Palma de Mallorca courtesy of Ryanair. The new route will start on October 7. Ryanair has decided to add the route to Palma de Mallorca because they have noticed another influx of tourists coming from Bremen. Some of these tourists come from England which experienced an unusually high degree of precipitation and flooding last summer. Virtually all tourists from England escaped the stormy conditions last August and fled to such places as Palma de Mallorca where the sun kept on shining largely thanks to its proximity to the Mediterranean. Another regional airline that has taken on the bandwagon to commit routes to Palma de Mallorca is Spanair.

Spanair says they are now committing another flight to Palma de Mallorca coming in from Algiers. With this development, one can easily surmise that it is not just fellow Europeans who have come to love the beauty of Palma de Mallorca. Even people from Africa are slowly getting a taste of how Palma de Mallorca experience looks like during summer. But not all Algerians go to Palma de Mallorca for pure pleasure though. There are others who have chosen the resort island as venue for their conferences and conventions. It is where Palma de Mallorca will ultimately rake in big revenues. Like that of Ryanair, the new flights from Algiers will also commence this first week of October.

And although Es Baluard is a relatively old museum, plans are now underway to renovate it and to upgrade its collections.

Another spectacle that has hit Palma de Mallorca last summer was the holding of the European Basketball Championship there. Spain was the host country and the Spanish government was gracious enough to spread the championship venues all over the country including its island off the mainland, Palma de Mallorca. Palma de Mallorca witnessed the grueling games between Lithuania and Germany as well as between Turkey and the Czech Republic for the Group C championship.
